Week 9 Reading Notes: Ideal Indian Women Part B

Uttara and Abhimanyu (Source: Wikimedia Commons)

I imagine Uttara as a really nice woman who would do anything for her and her husband’s happiness. She seems bubbly and happy all the time. Uttara was widowed at a very young age when Abhimanyu was killed in the Kurukshetra war. When Abhimanyu died, Uttara tried to burn herself on Abhimanyu’s pyre. Still, Krishna prevented her from doing so, informing her of her pregnancy. What could be interesting is to write how she feels after losing her significant other at a young age. Also, add how she’s coping with her emotions and how she will raise a child without her husband.

Sati’s story is also enjoyable. The fact that she is the “first” wife of Shiva can be fun to write. For example, she could show up to Parvati work (therapist) and do a session with her – it would probably be really awkward. Or either a story like Romeo & Juliette or West Side Story. Sati is dedicated to her husband and would do anything to be with him.
