Growth Mindset
Display about fixed and growth mindset (Source: Twitter)
I have
never heard of « growth mindset” before today! France and the US work the
same when it comes to evaluating a student: the only difference is that our
grades are numbers like 20/20 being the "best" grade to 0/20, being the "worst" grade.
I always thought that rather than grading someone with numbers/letters, we
should “grade” them through “knowledge acquired,” “in the process of being
acquired”, “not yet acquired.” Having “not yet acquired” is not a failure, but
more like something about how people progress: not everyone moves at the same
pace, some people will get things quickly while for others it will take some
time.
I hope to
learn about growth mindset this semester, I want to be a teacher, and I would
like to hand down knowledge to my students in the future. I do not want to be a teacher who is just focused on grades but rather a teacher who'll help their
students grow, help them learn that failure is not a bad thing, or help them challenge
themselves.
I will definitely
watch more tedtalks or listen to podcasts about it!
