Week 13 Story: "It's Okay."

He= Krishna The narrator: Radha

“Hey..”

“Hey….” I answered him quietly as he sat beside me.

We were at our spot: a dock pond near his house. The sunset was beautiful over there. Here we cried together, hold our hands for the first time, shared our first kiss, said “I love you” for the first time, and other first things that can happen in a love relationship. But we were not in a relationship, not officially. Nor even unofficially. We were best friends since 3rd grade and fell in love with each other in 11th grade. Or, more like we came into terms with our feelings for each other in 11th grade.

“So, you’re here to tell me you’re getting married?” I looked at him with a little smile on my face.

He looked at me, silently.

My mom told me the news. She has been working at his home as a housekeeper since forever, that’s why we were always together. Arranged marriage. That was a common thing in his world. He is the only heir of a multi-million corporate and he needs to be married to someone who’ll help the company grow and expand. We took advantage of our college years to be together, kind of. But now, it’s time for him to accomplish his destiny.

“I’m sorry.” He finally said.

I had the urge to tell him to not apologize because it is not his fault but I kept my mouth shut. I want to blame him; I want to shout at him. He did not fight for me, or maybe he did but it was not enough. How could he? How could he give up on me this easily? The worst part is that his future wife is a nice lady. She is beautiful, compassionate, and altruistic. We went to school together and witnessed with my own eyes how she was. Super nice and smiley. He will be lucky with her and vice versa.

“It’s okay.” I whispered.

We just sat there, silently, trying to comfort each other just by sitting next to each other. As I said earlier, the sunset was beautiful over there. Our last sunset sighting together.

Author’s note: This story is based on Krishna’s impossible love story with Radha. The story of Krishna is pretty simple: he was the one who was going to kill the evil one way before he was himself born—not even born that he was already a threat to an evil King. His parents were from the royals family, and they switched him with a baby girl from their village for him to live. Because his uncle, the evil King, has been murdering his sister sons, fearing to be killed by them while the prophecy said that the eighth son would be his killer. Krishna is switched and lived his best life with his “mother.” During his life there, he met his soulmate Radha but could not have a relationship with her because she was not part of his destiny of saving the world.

I wrote the story in a modern setting. In both stories, the original and this one, Krishna cannot be with Radha because of destiny. They are both coping with the painful truth.
